Hesitancy about baby vaccination or childhood immunization
I`ve talked about how parents invest a lot into their children before here, and make significant sacrifices. This should be evident from the fact that children and family are frequently the subject of everyday conversation and tasks for parents. Parenting is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no paid time off. There`s a reason the saying “it takes a village to raise a child” exists. This is multiplied by ten if the child has physical, developmental, or other disabilities. However, possibly the most challenging aspect of parenting is knowing what the right thing to do is. It can be difficult to stop and reflect in the middle of a probably already chaotic household. How do you know what the right decisions are? Well….you don't exactly. There are too many variables between one child and another to always get it right; or for the same parenting techniques to work equally well on all children. This is where fear of the unknown and lacking certainty factor in.
This can be especially true when making healthcare decisions for the child. Such decisions can be especially high stakes because it isn`t easy to reverse these decisions; combined with the fact that the parent won't always have control over the outcome of the decisions. For this reason; it won't be a surprise that parental vaccine hesitancy is emerging as a key challenge to vaccination programmes. In that context; it's important to explore parental vaccine hesitancy.
